What you’ll first notice is the 3D animation. Both films use this style, and if you’re worried about it; just perish the thought. As most anime use 2D animation, it might seem new and alienating but you’ll get used to it. Both films have a lot of similarities. There’s the conflict with the alternate universe and the protagonist’s other self is his companion. The plot also revolves around twisting fate in order to be with the one they love. With Ashita Sekai ga Owaru toshitemo, it focuses more on the sci-fi aspect most especially on the second half. Of course, I wouldn’t miss out the bad-ass fighting scenes on this one.

In Arte, the main character is also a woman aspiring to learn a trade, painting portraits of clients. In Violet Evergarden, the main character learns the trade of writing letters for clients. In either, there is a blossoming romance with someone they idolize, although in Violet Evergarden it is a side plot. Coincidentally, both shows are named after the main character.

What is apparent from watching BB is that decisions were made to contrast the hues in the anime; protagonist's blue, so his opponent's red, but that doesn't stop there at all as even environments are usually one or another, kind of like how in Tatami Galaxy one hue is more likely to envelop most others, except in BB they're more 'solid', more bright (as even street lights are), and this presumably was made so life could be felt emanating from, mainly Hideyoshi, but also societies at large.

BB tackles a concept that not many other 'casual' anime in this genre can address, "what if whole teams were much taller, stronger?" - since, like in SD, they're set not in a hypothetical near future, but likely in schools where everyone has basically the same strengths and weaknesses, with only a little variability (and even then, with usually at least the same amount of tall people in each team) - but not BB, it isn't even set in any kind of school (which already makes it different from most others in the genre), and instead wonders whether those with talent potential, no matter their background circumstances, could succeed in a competitive environment.

Like its similar predecessor, SD, BB is comedic and has a personality-driven protagonist that, despite the differences in height and blue, instead of red hair, can get into mischief. The comedy springs from there principally, but both have differing approaches to their relationships with other characters (SD has more of an attempt at romance); both, clearly, have a dissimilar number of episodes, and so can express each personality for a longer or shorter time, but BB could have included more of them (besides the central cast), although in the end it is still sort of a microcosm of the author's previous manga.

Listeners
Both shows are original mecha anime that try to bring something unique to the table through their world building. While Planet With accomplishes this aim significantly better, Listeners has the more attractive premise. Both shows seem to struggle with pacing at times, but in opposite ways- with Planet With coming dangerously close to growing stale early on, and Listeners erratically hoping from plot line to plot line. If you want two interesting but flawed original mecha series, these will be right up your ally- but if you can only watch one it should certainly be Planet With.

But their passion on it's own wouldn't make us want to watch it, story of making something grand and special is main focal point of both Eizouken and Beck. Both of these anime are space westerns that dip heavily into the western stylistic; they also came out at around the same time and are high quality and highly regarded shows. Both are mainly episodic but have overarching plots around the MC that gradually become more important as time goes on. Both shows have MCs with a lot of similarities (eg: the mysterious, tragic past that slowly unfolds over the course of the show, or their impressive skills in combat/with a gun). I would argue Vash is the more nuanced of the two, whereas Cowboy Bebop develops the rest of its main cast a lot more than Trigun. The general atmospheres of the show are also pretty similar and the villains and how they relate to the MC are also similar.

Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen
Both of them are high school romantic/comedy anime with intriguing premises and unique approaches to the romances. Both also have strong, slow burn progression over their comedic episodes. However, Toradora's character development is a lot stronger and its cast is a lot more fleshed out (at least so far, as of writing this Kaguya-sama is 2 episodes into season 2, which makes this hard to compare to a completed show), and it has more serious moments as opposed to Kaguya-sama being more heavily reliant on the comedy. Both also have absolutely adorable characters and character interactions; if you love these idiots in one of these shows, you'll probably also love them in the other. Some parallels between character archetypes could be made, with Taiga/Kaguya being the rich girl/tsundere, Ryuji/Miyuki being reliable/hard workers, and Minori/Chika being the goofy/innocent best friend of the rich girl.

Sengoku Basara
Sengoku Basara seems to at times either inflate characters to such unrealistic proportions that the result might not be as expected (which might be due to relying on an arc for episodes, where other anime like Inuyasha tend to go on at length and so it isn't a burst as such).
